Zimbabwe Music Rights Association

The Association protects the performing rights of music composers, authors and publishers in Zimbabwe and internationally through: -Collecting royalties on their behalf -Issuing licenses to music users -Distributing royalties to the right holders
ZIMURA is not a government parastatal. It is a non-profit making organization whose operations are regulated by the Zimbabwe Intellectual Property Office which falls under the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
Yes the Association has its Memorandum and articles of Association which can be obtained from the office upon request.

-To have your rights as a music composer and publisher protected -For easy access of your royalties from music users both locally and internationally
Piracy is not ZIMURA’s mandate for the time being. However, ZIMURA participates in anti-piracy activities organized by Interpol and ZRP.

Not all but most of them are.
A ZIMURA is not a music promoter. It only manages certain rights of music composers and publishers. However there is a Trust established by the members to organize live show events to raise funds ear marked for social support.
ZIMURA does not negotiate remuneration of live performances for artists. It is the duty of the Trade Unions of the musicians.
The Board is elected by the General Assembly at an Annual General Meeting.
The Board normally sits four times a year and they are only given a sitting allowance which is approved by the General Assembly.
ZIMURA licenses for public performance and communication to the public. Buddie Beats and Tele tunes downloads are under mechanical rights. At the moment ZIMURA is in the process of acquiring mechanical rights from artists to manage them.
